Students Get More Than Calcium from Milk
New Milk Cartons Deliver Safety Message

(Los Angeles, CA) Today in Los Angeles, the California Safe Schools
Coalition and Los Angeles Unified Boardmember David Tokofsky, were joined by
political leaders, educators, and children's health advocates as they
unveiled new milk cartons that deliver important safety messages to kids.
The messages: "Be Bright Wear White at Night", "Wearing a Bicycle Helmet is
a Brainy Idea" and "Don't Feed Pests Use Trash Bins" are the first images to
be released.

California Safe Schools Coalition is nationally recognized for their
success in eliminating health threats in schools. For this effort, California
Safe Schools teamed with famed illustrator Michael
Bruza for these innovative messages.

"This safety campaign is an extension of our concern for children's
safety. We are confident all of these messages will prevent injuries, " said
Robina Suwol, Executive Director of California Safe Schools Coalition.
Referring to the carton that reads, "Don't Feed Pests Use Trash Bins" Suwol
explained, "The more students and teachers keep their school site clean the
fewer pests".

"Every lunch hour of every school day, our kids see these milk cartons,"
said Tokofsky. "Why not use the space to reinforce messages that might make
a difference in some young lives?"

Founded in 1998, California Safe School Coalition was the force behind Los
Angeles Unified School District groundbreaking Integrated Pest Management
(IPM) Policy, whose preamble includes the "precautionary principle."  IPM
uses low risk methods to eradicate pests. This policy led to California's
Healthy Schools Act of 2000, and has become a model for school districts and
communities nationwide.

Driftwood Dairy is the milk provider. The new cartons will appear in LAUSD
cafeterias immediately. For more information on the California Safe Schools
