Toxicity to Bees,
Birds, Fish or Wildlife (T)
The U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency requires certain pesticides that are
known to be toxic to non-target organisms to include specific
precautionary statements on the pesticide label.
Hazards
-
These
pesticides include those that are "toxic" or
"highly toxic" to bees, birds, fish, aquatic invertebrates
or other organisms.
Precautions
-
Use
alternative products that do not include these statements on the
label
-
Apply
the product in such a way as to eliminate or greatly reduce the
potential for the organisms named to become exposed. For
example, do not apply the pesticide outdoors, or apply it only to
specific sites, such as stinging insect nests.
-
Do
not apply products with specific warnings about toxicity to fish or
aquatic invertebrates near surface water or storm sewers, or when
rainfall is expected which may carry the pesticide into surface
water.
