Inert Ingredients

Pesticides contain "inert" ingredients such as solvents, adjuvants and other chemicals that are not intended to affect the target pest directly.  These ingredients are designed to improve the effectiveness of the other "active" ingredients which do affect the target pest.

Inert ingredients may be as much as 99% of the total product. They may also have toxic properties, much like active ingredients. For most pesticides, manufacturers are not required to publicly disclose inert ingredients.

Where we are able to obtain information on the inert ingredients contained in a pesticide, we check these against our criteria for least toxic as completely as possible.

Where we have not been able to identify inert ingredients, we note that with the product listing.
